Frequently asked questions
We hope that you've learnt all you need to know about staying at Lightfoot House and the surrounding area, but just in case, we have put together answers to our most frequently asked questions prior to booking your stay with us, together with our House Rules and Information for Dog Owners. Should there be anything we haven't included please don't hesitate to contact us at enquiries@lightfoothouseholidaycottage.com
Do you welcome pets?
Lightfoot House is pet friendly and we can welcome up to two well behaved dogs. We have space for crating in the kitchen or we have a large dog bed available, as well as feeding bowls. Although we do not have a garden area there is a right of way access from the rear of the cottage to the village green for exercise and toileting needs. We do ask that any dog/s staying with us are not left unattended. Please see our Information for Dog Owners for further details.
Can you provide secure storage for bicycles?
We are fortunate that Lightfoot House has a secure outbuilding that can accommodate up to 4 bicycles with room for essential maintenance and repair if needed. There are excellent routes in the area and in the nearby village of Fremington, Reeth, is the excellent Dales Bike Centre which offers bike hire, guided bike routes, bike shop and some of the best cakes around.
Is there parking available?
For checking in and offloading your bags, vehicles can be parked alongside the entrance to the private access that leads to Lightfoot House. Please note cars are not permitted to park on the private lane.
Whilst staying at Lightfoot House there is off road parking available alongside the traditional telephone box opposite the village green.
Do you have a stairgate/high chair available?
We have both a highchair and stair gate available on request and allow for guests to bring a travel cot if required.
Is smoking permitted at the property?
For the comfort of all of our guests and its safety as a Grade II listed property, Lightfoot House is a smoke-free home, including the outside area surrounding the property. We ask all guests kindly not to smoke, vape or use e-cigarettes.
Do you allow additional guests?
Lightfoot house can comfortably accommodate up to a maximum of 4 people and therefore additional guests are not permitted. As it is located within a rural, residential community we do not accept hen or stag parties.
What is your cancellation policy for my booking?
Our cancellation policy can be found in our terms and conditions which can be viewed prior to your booking when selecting your dates.
Where is the nearest grocery store?
There are a number of local supermarkets in nearby Leyburn (4.9miles) located on the Market Square (Co-op & Tesco). We highly recommend a visit to the award winning Campbell's of Leyburn, stockists for many local producers, to stock up on provisions before arriving. Lightfoot House is also accessible for supermarket deliveries.
Is there any local transport available?
The Wensleydale Voyager bus service is available to both Leyburn (156 Leyburn) & Hawes (156 Gayle) Mon-Sat and there are a number of local taxi services available detailed in our digital guide book.
Redmire also has its own stop on the heritage Wensleydale Railway but services are suspended at present whilst a review and repair of the track is undertaken with services anticipated to return in 2025. For information regarding the services from Leyburn and up to date news you can visit their website at wensleydale-railway.co.uk.
